How The Toyota Prius Is Leading The Way For Toyota’s Development Team
With over 20 years of hybrid dominance, it’s difficult to think of any other car in this space. Toyota seems to recognize that they are the leader in this space as the result of the Toyota Prius success, and are planning to take a step even further, recently making an announcement that every single one of its models under both the Toyota and Lexus banners will have an electrified variant of some kind by 2025.
So, how long will it take until you can pick up all these different options? Depending on where you live, you may have to wait a bit. Toyota says that it’s first going to start rolling out these different options in China, where interest in electric cars is the highest. The U.S., Japan, and Europe are going to be next on the list.
However, the automaker isn’t planning on abandoning what brought them to the table, either. Toyota plans to expand its plug-in range around this time as well, using an improved development of the Prius’ Toyota Hybrid System II drivetrain.
Some may wonder why Toyota took so long to get some battery electric options, but that may not be the best way to look at it. The automaker says it is working on solid-state batteries for use in its next-gen EVs of the 2020s, thinking in the long-term.
